Honoring Drew's light and spirit through giving.
Andrew Paul Stevens Endowment Fund
Since Drew's passing in April 2012, over $25,000 has been donated to the UMass Memorial Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in his memory. These funds have gone toward purchasing cameras, called NICVIEW Web Cameras, used in Neonatal ICUs throughout the country.
The NICVIEW Web Camera is an innovative small camera system placed at designated bed spaces and allows parents, family and friends to view their infant in real-time, 24/7, through a secure online portal. This service helps families develop that bond with their preemie or hospitalized infant even when they can’t be there. The system also allows the caregivers to manage infant viewing securely via secure, encrypted transmissions.
Making parents feel more involved strengthens trusting relationships and provides reassurance, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on the job of caring for their little patients. Viewing of the baby’s intimate environment is protected by encrypted transmissions. Live streaming is only accessible to specified users using passwords issued by the hospital. No recordings are made, and no images are stored.
The way it works is by mounting an unobtrusive camera close to the bed delivers streamed video images around the clock, so that families can watch their newborn anytime, anywhere — on any device with internet access.
We met with UMass Memorial Medical Center leaders to review options for the types of equipment and program support that would benefit their PICU and decided the NICVIEW Web Cameras would be perfect. We saw firsthand how many children were left alone in the PICU because their parents had to leave the hospital to care for other children, or because they had to work.
UMass Memorial Medical Center is officially the first PICU to utilize them as well. We call them "Drew View" here! Check out this video below to learn more about how Drew's legacy will continue to live on.
The Andrew Paul Stevens Endowment Fund was established in 2012, earmarked for the needs of the UMass Memorial Medical Center PICU. So now, "Derby for Drew" continues the fundraising...
This page, as well as our Facebook page, are ways to spread the smile, love and story that Drew passed along to everyone that he met.
